DENTAL DISEASES AND TREATMENT

What is periodontal treatment?

In order to better manage the bacteria that cause gum disease, periodontal care is the specialist cleaning of your teeth and gums. The germs (bacteria) which live in your mouth cause gum disease. Sticking to the teeth, the bacteria irritate the gums and make them bleed. The gum and bone which support your teeth will eventually be damaged by gum disease. Some persons are more seriously ill with gum disease than others. This may have particular causes, such as diabetes or smoking, but some people are more likely to have gum disease than others.

Periodontal diseases are inflammatory diseases that affect the gums and other tissues supporting the teeth. Periodontal diseases are responsible for 70% of tooth loss in adults. These diseases can be treated easily and successfully when diagnosed early.  Prevention or treatment of gum diseases; other benefits such as preservation of natural teeth, more comfortable chewing, and better digestion.  Treatment in the early stage of gum disease involves the removal of attachments (plaque and calculus) on the teeth and a smooth root surface. This process removes bacteria and irritants that cause inflammation in the gums. Usually, this treatment is sufficient to re-adapt the gum to the tooth or to have the gingiva contracted to eliminate the pocket.  In the majority of cases in the early stage of gum disease, effective dental care following daily removal of plaque, plaque removal, and a smooth root surface is sufficient for successful treatment. More advanced cases may require surgical treatment. The aim of this treatment is to clean the dental stones in the deep periodontal pockets surrounding the teeth, to ensure the elimination of the pocket by shrinking and a smooth root surface and to create a more easily gum form.

Why you should have periodontal treatment

Your gums will become more stable after periodontal surgery, which will help you hold your teeth longer. The improvements will depend on how effective your cleaning is and how serious your illness was to begin with. This will get better if the gums bleed, are red or swollen. If your gums are sore, treatment should improve, and if your teeth feel loose, after treatment, they can feel firmer. Your breath could become fresher as well.
